About the Kangaroo

Description:
A long body with smallish head and large ears, tapering from a narrow chest and slight forepaws to extremely well developed hind quarters and powerful hind legs used for hopping. A long thick tail is used for balancing when hopping or as a prop when standing. Thick body fur varies from soft and short to woolly with colour variation from dark reddish-brown to light blue-grey with light underparts and markings. One of these species is the largest living marsupial.

Adult Size:
Overall length 1200 - 3300mm, weight 3.5 - 85kgs
Tail length 400 - 1100mm

Reproduction:
After gestation of 29-40 days the young joey weighing 1 - 2gms at birth, feed from 1 of 4 nipples in a forward opening pouch for a period of 8 - 12 months.

Breeding Season:
October to December but opportunistically according to season.

Habits:
Nocturnal, late afternoon to early morning grazing on grass and herbs in small groups, and sleep during the day under shade trees and rocky outcrops. Adapts from semi-arid scrub to well forested areas.
